Derby Day 2010

Last Friday our school had its own Kentucky Derby Day. We had to get crafty (which isn't always easy for me) and make our own hats for the races. They had a track set up on the big field and each class raced around with paper horses they had made in class. Both Alex and I made sure to tell Alexis to run as fast as she could around the track. Alex even strategically placed her on the inside for advantage. When they said "Go" she took off as fast as she could , leaving the other kids in her dust! She started losing steam about 3/4 of the way around and another little boy passed her on the last turn giving her second place. You would have thought she was running in the Olympics the way I was jumping up and down and screaming! The whole event was a lot of fun!

Here's a close up of the hat Alexis and I made.

Click Play to watch Alexis cross the finish line!

After each class had raced they made all of the male teachers race too. They called it the "Large Thoroughbred" race. That's the pricipal on the end on crutches joking around like she was going to race with them.

And Alex crossing the finish line first in great fashion!

Hey neighbor! Fancy seeing you here! Your girls are just darling! We really need to have a playdate at the park! (or maybe the pool!) I know Dalee would love to see them more often! Tell Alex congrats for winning the race! hehe
